Kennyb and Ben took the All Too Flat poetry onstage to compete in a team poetry slam competition at the Urbana Poetry Club in June. There were 6 teams competing for a grand prize Deluxe Edition Scrabble Set. Neither of us had ever been to a Slam before, much less participated in one, much less competed in one! But what the heck, right?
So we go onstage with our i300 Palm Phones and recite the Longest and Shortest Haikus in the world, followed by the NAFTA haiku debates. Unfortunately Tiggz, who wrote half of the NAFTA haikus, couldn't be in the city that night.
So we were a little nervous and got completely hosed by the judges, finishing a respectable last place. But the audience (about 50 people) really dug us, and we got tons of cheers, and people booed (bood?) when we got low scores. But it was super fun, and we got a ton of compliments afterwards, including a huge compliment from the owner of the poetry club who asked us to come back and perform more. He gave us his number and told us to call anytime. Pretty sweet, huh?
Anyway, here are some pictures from that night. Click on them to see bigger ones.
